This brand new body of work from the internationally acclaimed ceramicist Michael Flynn brings together multiple aspects of theatre, mask and social dramaturgy and developed them into a series of contemporary works influenced by the underlying social traditions eminating from Wales and the UK.Michael Flynn's highly distinctive figurative ceramics use a variety of ceramic techniques including raku, terracotta and porcelain, he also occasionally works in bronze. His sculptures explore the dangerous nature of male/female relationships with suggestions of lust, violence, joy and ecstasy.
The following essay has been kindly written for the exhibition by Moira Vincentelli, Emeritus Professor in Art History and Curator of Ceramics, Aberystwyth University.
Mae’r casgliad newydd yma o waith yn dwyn ynghyd amrywiol agweddau – caiff theatr, mygydau a dramayddiaeth cymdeithasol eu datblygu’n gyfres o weithiau cyfoes wedi eu dylanwadu gan draddodiadau cymdeithasol sylfaenol. Mae gweithiau serameg ffiguraidd, hynod drawiadol Michael Flynn yn defnyddio amrywiol ddulliau yn cynnwys racw, terracotta a phorslen, bydd hefyd yn archwilio ei themâu mewn efydd. Mae ei gerfluniau’n archwilio natur peryglus perthnasau rhwng gwrywod a menywod gydag awgrymiadau o chwant, trais a pherlewyg.
Ysgrifennwyd y traethawd canlynol ar gyfer yr arddangosfa hon trwy garedigrwydd Moira Vincentelli, Athro Emeritws mewn Hanes Celf a Churadur Serameg, Prifysgol Aberystwyth.
