Suffrage

Textiles celebrating 100 years of women’s suffrage

An exhibition focusing on textile art and political expression to mark the Centenary of Women’s Suffrage. In the early 20th Century women used skills learned at home to give voice to their political struggle; in aprons, ribbons and banners they visually propelled their call for universal suffrage to a wider audience. These contemporary artists continue that tradition expressing radical thought through a politicising of the everyday, challenging and questioning the role of women in society and illustrating gender inequalities locally and globally.

Artists: Morwenna Catt, Eleanor Edwardes, Caren Garfen, Rozanne Hawklsey, Sue Shields, Ruth Singer

The Suffrage Exhibition and workshops have been supported by Welsh Government's 'Women's Suffrage Centenary Grant Scheme 2018'
