Traces - Kate Haywood

Language of Clay Part II

Main Gallery

03 August 2019 until 14 September 2019

Kate’s work may appear strangely familiar as you may sense the form of a horn drinking cup or a colour palette resonant of Elizabethan tapestries. The surfaces which her work is placed reverberate with shadows of human things. Her objects are made at the edge of her consciousness, in the place where fiction and truth collide.

Textile Traces: personal stories in cloth Ruth Singer

Main Gallery

25 May 2019 until 20 July 2019

This exhibition brings together Ruth’s work exploring human experience expressed through thoughtful and emotionally engaged textile making. Her subtle and delicate work references loss, memory, fragility and damage in both the cloth itself and in our personal lives. Ruth creates pieces with a sense of history and a look of antiques but with a powerful contemporary story.

Seen and Unseen: Ingrid Murphy

The Language of Clay Part II

Main Gallery

30 March 2019 until 11 May 2019

Connectivity is crucial to Ingrid, between people, places and across time. Her explorations provoke and surprise us as she marries traditional ceramic processes with creative technologies. Be it the view from inside a teapot or the sounds from the streets of Jaipur, her pieces connect us to different perspectives and stories. Seen and unseen is a witty expansion of the languages and qualities of clay.

Jin Eui Kim

The development of tonal clays and techniques towards new artworks

Gallery 3

30 March 2019 until 11 May 2019

This research and development project funded by Arts Council of Wales was launched to develop new techniques to create artworks which have the potential to influence the viewer’s perception in three-dimensional and two-dimensional artworks.

During the project Jin has explored two-dimensional work by developing and using new tonal clays to make modules with particular patterns. The modules can be juxtaposed together to potentially experiment with creating larger scale architectural artworks in the future.

Venus

Main Gallery

02 February 2019 until 16 March 2019

Several years before his death, artist William Brown proposed a three artist exhibition exploring the theme of Venus. William had for some years, prompted by his ‘discovery’ of a small carved votive figure in a cave above the village of Blaengwynfi, produced paintings and prints on the theme.

Roger Moss and Keith Bayliss have researched and produced new work in a variety of media – painting, prints, drawings and sculpture to accompany some of William Brown’s originals. The exhibition includes three bronze figures of ‘Venus’ one from each of the artists.
