studiogeist
13 February 2021 until 10 April 2021
Students from Cardiff School of Art & Design have been, despite the odds creating, making and designing work throughout the lockdowns of the last few months. In celebration of this adversity, Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre are delighted to be hosting a digital exhibition on their website that shows the diversity and strength of their work, as well as celebrating the work-in-progress, in between works, and the studio atmosphere whether at home or in dedicated spaces.
The online exhibition highlights the shift from physical to virtual as imbued with possibility; while the physical studios may be left abandoned, the creativity bustles on. The spirit of the studio is conventionally hidden behind closed doors, in this exhibition we make it accessible for all.
From drawings, design plans and maquettes, to the nearly finished or the pieces left behind; the work exhibited will fluctuate as ideas progress. Through the ability to update, studiogeist offers insight into creative processes as they happen.
The eight week long exhibition will incorporate two virtual events, which will aid in contextualising the theme of adaptability. These will pull together academics, artists and organisers to discuss the changes seen within entrepreneurship and artistic practices. The artists will also draw attention to the experience of students and how this period of intense change has positively impacted their mode of practice. Studiogeist is an example of determination to counter challenges and respond with creative resilience. They encourage viewers to return to our shape-shifting exhibition and follow them through to their final degree show, whatever twists and turns we may encounter en-route.
