Amanda uses diverse materials in her work many of which she has collected from her time in London where she mudlarked on the Thames river foreshore.Now living in Wales she continues to gather found objects from the Welsh landscape,whether they be wood, glass, river stones or pottery.

All these materials are bound and stitched,combined with recycled silver and worked into bespoke items of jewellery, that not only connect to nature and landscape, but also tell a story of the communities that lived before us and the traces of their lives they have left behind.

LGAC have travelled the UK to select the cream of this year’s graduates in the applied arts, searching for those who are pushing the boundaries of applied art whilst maintaining and developing the traditions of their craft. These are the makers and designers destined to lead and shape the next generation of applied artists

Sarah Hatton weaves using a small selection of the twenty varieties of willow grown on her smallholding in Caerphilly, which gives her a sustainable supply of willow. Using such a small range of willow and growing it herself has given Sarah a full appreciation of the lifecycle of a willow. This showcase presents a range of baskets showing Sarah’s journey of basket making. She has included traditional welsh baskets as well as contemporary baskets using her favourite weaves,colours, shapes and techniques. Sarah Hatton was winner of the Llantarnam Grange Art Centre 'Craft Showcase' award at the 2015 Made by Hand Exhibition in Cardiff.

Lisa's lichen collection mimics the growth patterns created by lichen on stone. Pieces are acid etched with subtle differences in colour created by depleting the silver, oxidation and the application of keum bo in 23.5ct gold. Precious and semi precious faceted gemstones are also set within some pieces.

Alex is a renaissance man in his approach to painting, embracing a wide variety of subjects including portraits, landscapes, still life and abstracts. What unifies all his work is his love of colour and observation. He approaches his work with a scientific, structured method of seeing; analysing what nature gives us to appreciate. Alex Brown gained his degree in fine art painting at Camberwell School of Art in the early 80s and has been a professional exhibiting artist ever since. He has work in private collections in the UK and abroad as well as a number of public collections; He was commsioned by The Transport Museum London for a series of posters for the Underground and Art for Hospitals to name but two. He is also a tutor with many years experience, running life drawing classes from his Monmouthshire studio. In the last couple of years Alex has also been running popular painting courses in France.
