Textile Landscapes

Oriel Cafe Gallery

03 December 2016 until 28 January 2017

As a textile and print artist Monmouthshire based Penny Turbull's primary interest is in collage and the layering of texture and colour to create her image. Her work involves the use of an embellisher allowing her to combine fabrics and colour in a painterly way, giving more scope to mix and fragment colour producing an interesting background to further develop with stitch.

Free machine embroidery using a black thread gives a sketch like quality which is further worked with hand stitching to add detail and movement.

Penny works from her studio in Monmouthshire.

Amanda Caines

Jewellery Showcase

All these materials are bound and stitched, combined with recycled silver and worked into bespoke items of jewellery, that not only connect to nature and landscape, but also tell a story of the communities that lived before us and the traces of their lives they have left behind.
