The Language of Clay: Part One

30 July 2016 until 17 September 2016

The first of three solo exhibitions of work by three Wales based ceramic artists.

Anna Noël is concerned with narrative and the absurd. She creates figurative ceramics which draw on myth and legend, encompassing symbolism and mysticism.

This project gives Anna significant focus to create a cohesive body of work that will advocate her work to new and wider audiences.

There will be an "in conversation" with Anna at 11am on the opening day of the exhibition (30th July)

In conversation with Rozanne Hawksley

Artist talk as part of Rozanne's current Reflections exhibition

Main Gallery

25 June 2016 until 25 June 2016

Born in the naval town Portsmouth in 1931, Rozanne Hawksley was a wartime evacuee and grew up at a time when many were mourning those who never returned from the sea. She has drawn from that and other personal experiences in her work. Having trained at the Royal College of Art in the 1950s, when she became part of the group that included Lucien Freud, Francis Bacon and John Minton, she moved to America. Whilst there, Rozanne undertook commissions for Eleanor Roosevelt and the Kennedy family, and also designed for the Women's Home Industries, the post-war project created by Lady Reading.

Rozanne Hawksley - Reflections

Main Gallery

28 May 2016 until 16 July 2016

Rozanne’s work has always been very reflective, not only of personal experiences but also her lifelong passions regarding the futility of war and the tragedy of loss. Her work is imbued with a personal power, whether she is illustrating personal stories or universal themes. Rozanne will be showing her exquisite 3D work but also for the first time her incredibly touching self-portraits.

Paul Wearing

Paul Wearing

Craft Showcase

28 May 2016 until 16 July 2016

Textures that manifest naturally on surfaces within diverse urban and rural landscapes, are fundamental to Paul Wearing's practice. He expresses his relationship to these through the glazed surface and ceramic sculptural vessel form. It is this relationship between the slower emerging life cycles of nature and the making process leading to alchemical developments within the kiln that underpins his work: a dialogue between the hand-made and manifestations of nature.
