Walter Keeler Arlein
One of the Europe's leading studio potters Walter Keeler's practice is rooted in the domestic and the functional. Working with both salt-glazed stoneware and lead-glazed earthenware his innovative and characteristic designs are thrown, turned and altered.
Walter’s work is not only functional but holds a strong ornamental element that bridges the gap between practical domestic objects and sculptural form. His influences include Greek Pottery, Roman Glass, Eighteenth Century Staffordshire wares and tin oil cans.
Highly collectable, his work is held in a number of public and private collections including Victoria & Albert Museum, National Museum Wales, American Craft Museum, New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art , Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, USA and the Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
Over the years Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre has included Walter's pottery in a number of exhibitions and stocks his work in the centre's craftshop. All work for sale is from our shop stock.
